OLD TESTAMENT SURVEY
Be prepared to answer any of the essay questions listed under the "Review" button of the "Survey" section.
CANON
In your own words, define the "canon," explain the process of canonization and its relevance to God's people.
OLD TESTAMENT GEOGRAPHY: MOVEMENTS
Trace the movement of people and events in one of the time periods listed under the "Study" and "Geography" buttons: Adam to Joseph, Moses to Samuel, United Kingdom, and Divided Kingdom to the Return.
OLD TESTAMENT GEOGRAPHY: SITES
Identify on a map and know the significance of all sites on the "Geography" index, including: Babylonia, Assyria, Canaan, Egypt, Sinai, Euphrates River, Tigris River, Dead Sea, Nile River, Ur, Haran, Shechem, Bethel, Hebron, Sodom, Gomorrah, Goshen, Mt. Sinai, Ai, Jericho, Philistia, Lebanon, Ammon, Phoenicia, Moab, Edom, Jerusalem, Israel, Judah, Nineveh, Babylon, and Susa.
BOOKS
Know the "Book Hook" for each book of the Old Testament, and be prepared to write a short essay on the people, places, events, key Scriptures, chronological placement and application for each book.
CHRONOLOGY
Write a brief essay on one of the Old Testament chronological periods, describing key dates, events and scriptures related to the period. The chronological periods are:
1. One of the foundations of sound scriptural interpretation is the law of context. There are four parts to this law. Explain each of the four parts in detail, and explain why they are important for accurately interpreting the Bible.
2. Using all the necessary rules of interpretation, describe the author's intent in Daniel 1:1-21.
FACTS
Review the questions and answers to Bible facts ("Facts" button), and be prepared to answer 100 multiple choice questions drawn from these questions.
CASE STUDY
Be prepared to write an extended essay(s) drawn from a case study which synthesizes the information drawn from your study of the Old Testament. For example, a case study on the role of a "prophet" today might analyze the life and message of the prophet Amos. This analysis might include the qualifications and role of a prophet, and the prophet's role in addressing socio-economic, political, and human rights violations within the church and within its surrounding social context.
